The Bunk House
A family of avid climbers, skiers and hikers was inspired by the AMC White Mountain huts to create a unique gathering place. The Bunk House is a short walk from the main house and offers wonderful views across the Connecticut River Valley into the Green Mountains. It is banked into the hillside to provide access to grade on two levels while the existing wooded landscape is undisturbed. The back porch opens onto to a terrace and hiking trails that lead past glacial boulders to the top of a mountain. The first floor provides space for vehicles and storage of outdoor recreational gear. A gathering room, office, coffee bar and a shared bathroom are on the second floor. The open and cosy bunk room on the third floor can comfortable sleep 12 people. An efficient heating system, a high performance thermal envelope and durable, locally sourced materials are integral to the design.
